16 people arrested in France over the robbery of reality TV star
Up to 16 people have been arrested in France over the robbery of reality TV star Kim Kardashian in a Paris apartment in October.
Attackers wearing ski masks and clothes with police markings burst into the block in the early hours of October 3, tied Kardashian up at gunpoint and stole 9 million euros ($A13 million) worth of jewellery, police said at the time.
Reports by Europe 1, RTL Radio and BFM TV said the suspects had been arrested in part thanks to DNA traces left at the scene. One of those in custody was picked up in Grasse, in
the Alpes-Maritimes region of southeast France, and was known to police for criminal activity.
The Paris prosecutor could not be reached immediately for comment. Kardashian, who is married to US rap star Kanye West, was "badly shaken but physically unharmed," her publicist said at the time. The 36-year-old broke her silence on the robbery in a trailer for an upcoming series of the family's reality show, Keeping Up With The Kardashians, saying she feared she was going to be shot in the back.
She was seen telling her sisters Khloe and Kourtney she thought "they're going to shoot me in the back. There's no way out" and she added: "It makes me so upset to think about it." The mother-of-two was locked up in a bathroom in a private residence in Paris and tied up by armed robbers, thought to have been dressed as police officers.
The star suffered more turmoil the following month when her rapper husband West was taken to hospital in Los Angeles for sleep deprivation and exhaustion, after abruptly cancelling his US Saint Pablo tour.

Four people has been charged a video showing a man with special needs being beaten
Four people have been charged after a video showing a man with special needs being beaten and tortured was streamed live on Facebook. It comes after footage emerged of a woman laughing and smoking to camera as others use a knife to tear the victim's clothes and cut his hair until his scalp bleeds.
He is seen bound, gagged and slumped on the floor in a corner of a building during the ordeal in Chicago. At one point, one of the attackers kicks the helpless victim in the head. Someone can be heard in the 30-minute video saying: "F*** Donald Trump n*****. F*** white people boy." Prosecutors have now filed hate crime and aggravated kidnapping charges against four people accused of being involved.
Jordan Hill, 18, Brittany Covington, 18, Tesfaye Cooper, 18, and Tanishia Covington, 24, have also been charged with aggravated unlawful restraint and aggravated battery with a deadly weapon.
The victim is believed to have been held hostage for between 24 to 48 hours. He knew one of the suspects from school, according to police. Officers were called to a property on Chicago's West Side on Tuesday night and discovered signs of a struggle and damaged property. At around the same time, officers on patrol found the victim on a nearby street.
Superintendent Eddie Johnson said the man, who has "mental health challenges", was recovering.
He was taken to hospital, but has since been discharged. Police have said it is too early to say whether the attack was racially or politically motivated. A spokesman for Facebook said it had removed the video because it does "not allow people to celebrate or glorify crimes" on the site.

Dozen dead as blaze ripped through boat
At least 23 people have been killed and dozens rescued after a blaze ripped through a boat carrying tourists to Indonesian islands.
The craft was heading to islands north of the Indonesian capital, Jakarta, when it caught fire. Another 17 people were injured, said Ferry Budiharso, a spokesman for the Thousand Island police.
The head of Jakarta's search and rescue agency, Hendry Sudirman, said 98 people had been rescued. The fire broke out aboard the Zahro Express shortly after it left Muara Angke port in north Jakarta early on Sunday. The blaze was caused by a short circuit on a power generator on the boat, Mr Budiharso said. Sea accidents are frequent in Indonesia, a sprawling archipelago, with vessels often overloaded and having too few life jackets on boat.

2017:New Year Terrorist Attack in Istanbul, Turkey
A manhunt is under way for a gunman believed to have been dressed as Santa who killed at least 39 people in a New Year nightclub attack in Istanbul. Another 69 people were wounded in the armed rampage, which Istanbul's governor described as a "terrorist attack".
At least 16 foreign nationals were among the dead at the club which was popular with tourists, the Turkish interior ministry said.
The gunman killed a policeman and civilian outside the Reina nightclub before opening fire at random inside the building, packed with 600 people celebrating the New Year.
The gunman, reportedly wearing a Father Christmas outfit, remains at large.
"The search for the terrorist continues... I hope (the assailant) will be captured quickly, God willing," said interior minister Suleyman Soylu.
He added: "This was a massacre, a truly inhuman savagery."
One reveller told how she had to lift dead bodies off her to escape the building after the attack at 1.45am local time on Sunday. Other party-goers are reported to have jumped into the Bosphorus to escape the slaughter.
Television footage showed ambulances and police vehicles on the street outside the club in the Ortakoy district. Sinem Uyanik said she saw several bodies inside the club and her husband Lutfu Uyanik was wounded.
"Before I could understand what was happening, my husband fell on top me," she said.
"I had to lift several bodies from on top of me before I could get out."
Governor Vasip Sahin said: "A terrorist with a long-range weapon ... brutally and savagely ...fired bullets on innocent people.
"They (the revellers) were there solely to celebrate the New Year and have fun."
The Foreign Commonwealth Office (FCO) said UK tourists should follow the advice of local authorities while remaining vigilant. Attempts are being made to see whether any Britons were among the dead and injured.
The White House condemned the "horrific" attack, and the "savagery" of the attackers.
Ahead of the attack, security measures had been heightened in major Turkish cities, with police barring traffic leading up to key city squares.
In Istanbul, 17,000 police officers were on duty, some disguised as Santa Claus and others as street vendors, Anadolu reported. Ankara and Istanbul have been targeted by several attacks in 2016 carried out by the Islamic State group or Kurdish rebels. The attacks have killed more than 180 people
