40 Foreigners arrested within sambisa forest in Borno State Nigeria
- 40 foreigners were arrested within one week within the deadly Sambisa forest following the recovering of the forest from Boko Haram terrorists
- It is believed that the foreigners were providing “back-up” for Boko Haram 40 foreigners arrested in Sambisa forest At least, 40 foreigners were arrested within one
week within the deadly Sambisa forest following the recovering of the forest from Boko Haram terrorists.
According to a report by The Nation, profiling of the foreigners has started to determine whether or not they were working in cahoot with Boko Haram insurgents.
A military source said the identities of the foreigners and their missions in Sambisa Forest
will not be revealed untill after a thorough screening has been completed but it is believed
that the foreigners were providing “back-up” for Boko Haram.
”In the last one week since we launched massive operations in Sambisa Forest, we have arrested over 40 foreigners.
“We will come up with the details later after the profiling of these suspects. They are all being debriefed. But we discovered that there were so many foreigners in the midst of Boko Haram.
“We have also rescued a lot of people who are being screened too.”
Speaking further, a source said that that recovering the forest from Boko Haram was no easy feat.
“As for the operations in Sambisa Forest, our gallant troops have successfully taken over Camp Zero and Camp S (Shape) which are the headquarters of Boko Haram.
“The success of the operations is significant because there is no habitation beyond these areas in Sambuca Forest. The area is about 66,000 sq kilometres and there are so many parts uninhabited.
“Many insurgents, including their leaders, were killed and many were captured. Many insurgents are now fleeing. The situation now is that Boko Haram insurgents have been dispersed and dislocated.” On the fate of the remaining Chibok girls, the source said: “The fleeing Boko Haram insurgents must have relocated them from Sambisa Forest but we are all ready hunting for them.”
But a DSS source said the invasion of Sambisa Forest had entered the second phase, which is the pursuit of the fleeing insurgents.
The source said the operations in Sambisa were both intelligence-driven and military onslaught has resulted to the elimination of the insurgents from the forest.
“We have finished almost 90 per cent of the job with Boko Haram. We are now in the second phase which is the most difficult. We are pursuing the fleeing Boko Haram insurgents.
“The good thing is that we prepared for this fallout (the fleeing of the insurgents) long before the takeover of Sambisa Forest. We are trained professionals to curtail the effects of Boko Haram insurgency, especially the fallout of routing them out.
“We are apprehending the fleeing insurgents. Even yesterday, we took some of them in," the security chief stated.
DSS arrest 3rd most wanted terrorist
- Department of State Services (DSS) has arrested the third most wanted terrorism suspect in the world
- The suspect remains unnamed because he is still “undergoing profiling”
- DSS also intercepted a plot to carry out a deadly terrorist attack on the United States through its active intelligence alert DSS arrests third most wanted terrorism suspect.
Nigeria’s secret police, Department of State Services (DSS) has arrested the third most
wanted terrorism suspect in the world. According to a report by The Nation, the terrorist suspect has been accused of killing of expatriates in the country between 2012 and 2013 as secret services in various parts of the world have been trooping into Nigeria to interact with the suspect.
The suspect remains unnamed because he is still “undergoing profiling”, a source told the
newspaper. “He is still in our custody. “This suspect was responsible for the killing of some expatriates in the country between 2012 and 2013.” The source also confirmed how DSS intercepted a plot to carry out a deadly terrorist attack on the United States through its active intelligence alert. “About six months ago, we burst a terrorist attack that was to happen in the United States. This earned the service a letter of commendation. “In fact, President Barack Obama placed a call to President Muhammadu Buhari to acknowledge what we did. “We did not make it a media issue because before you know it, there will be editorials asking us whether we had addressed security challenges in Nigeria before helping the US. “But the speed with which things are changing and expanding around us, I can tell you that security challenge is becoming more globalised. “We have been taken into confidence as a nation better than what it was before.”
The arrest is seen as a significant anti-terrorism breakthrough. United States President Barack Obama telephoned President Muhammad Buhari to hail the feat, a source told The Nation. Meanwhile, ahead of 2019 election, activities of some politicians are under watch by the secret service.
The politicians include a few who are making inciting statements and “beating war drums
ahead of 2019 general elections”. “If there is any one group that is dangerous, it is the politicians. They are more dangerous than Boko Haram. ”The way 2019 is being looked at, many knives and sticks are being sharpened because of some people’s interest.
“A politician now throws decorum to the winds because he wants to be president or governor. He is now dishing out stories that will make this country to be burning… We want to reach 2019 in peace and not in pieces.
“The way they are interested in power without any plans on what to do gives calls for concern. They are turning truth into falsehood," a DSS source was quoted.

Freed Chibok Girls prevented from spending Christmas with their family
Kidnapped girls freed from more than two years of captivity by Boko Haram fighters were prevented by Nigerian officials from spending Christmas at home with their families, relatives and a lawyer says.
The news raised questions about Nigeria's handling of the 21 girls freed in October through negotiation mediated by the Swiss government and the International Committee of the Red Cross. Nearly 300 girls taking science exams were kidnapped from a government boarding school in the northeastern town of Chibok April 2014. Dozens escaped within hours, and 219 remain captive. The mass abduction brought Boko Haram world attention and sparked an international social media movement to "BringBackOurGirls". Those freed in October have been held for trauma counselling and rehabilitation in Abuja, the capital. They demanded to spend Christmas at home. The government tried to appease them saying they
would fly their parents to Abuja, human rights lawyer Emmanuel Ogebe said. He said the girls insisted on being at home and arrived in Chibok on Christmas Eve but were held at a legislator's house. Christmas Day passed but they were not allowed to see their parents until Borno state Governor Kashim Shettima showed up on Monday, with
cameras to have his photograph taken officially presenting the girls to their parents, Ogebe said. "In terms of a Christmas family reunion, this has got to rank amongst the world's most spectacular failed parties," Ogebe said by phone from his base in the US. "The Grinch, or in this case the government, stole their Christmas this time. Not the terrorists." The mother of one girl and the father of another said that the girls wanted to attend Christmas service at their church but were told they had to remain at the legislator's house for their security. The relatives spoke on condition of anonymity, fearing repercussions from the government for them and their daughters. The Bring Back Our Girls movement, Human Rights Watch and lawyers like Ogebe, who has organised scholarships in the US for some of the girls who escaped the night of the abduction, are asking if the traumatised girls have escaped one form of captivity for another.
Nigeria's army has freed thousands of people from captivity by Boko Haram this year as it has driven the Islamic extremist group out of towns and villages where they had declared a caliphate. Most have been detained for interrogation in appalling conditions that have resulted in the deaths of newly freed hostages and their babies, Amnesty International has reported.
President Muhammadu Buhari this week declared that Boko Haram had finally been "crushed," driven out of their last stronghold in the northeastern Sambisa Forest where they were believed to be holding many Chibok girls. The government said this week that negotiations to free the rest of the girls continue.
The military victory in Sambisa, which could not be independently verified, is unlikely to end the deadly suicide bombings and attacks on remote villages and army camps staged by the insurgents.

Two men who hijacked an aircraft and threatened to blow it up had a grenade and guns that were both fake.
The pair surrendered peacefully after several hours of negotiations at Malta International Airport, where the internal Libyan flight had been diverted. The hijackers, named as Libyans Suhah Mussa and Ahmed Ali, gave themselves up after allowing passengers and then some crew off the Afriqiyah Airways jet. The pair, believed to be aged in their twenties, later left the plane with the rest of the crew. Maltese soldiers found a second pistol when they searched the aircraft.
The Maltese prime minister, Joseph Muscat, said their weapons had been examined and were found to be replicas. The Airbus A320, with 111 passengers and six crew on board, was travelling from the Libyan city of Sabha to the capital Tripoli when it was forced to land in Malta on Friday morning.
The hijackers initially wanted the plane to be flown to Rome but it ended up in Malta due to fuel limitations. All flights to the airport were immediately diverted. Mr Muscat said his government had told the hijackers to release all the passengers before there could be any talks. He said: "This request was negotiated and eventually accepted, and passengers were released in consecutive groups."
In a series of tweets, Mr Muscat said 65 people had been allowed to leave, then another 44, including some crew, followed by the hijackers and the final crew members.
The passengers were being questioned by police and will then return to Libya on another Afriqiyah Airways jet, while the hijackers are being interrogated. At one point during the hijacking a man, believed to be one of the perpetrators, briefly appeared with a plain green flag at the top of steps outside the aircraft.
The flag was thought to be of Libya when it was ruled by former dictator Colonel Muammar Gaddafi. The plane's pilot Ali Milad told Libyan TV the hijackers had been seeking political asylum in Europe and wanted to set up a political party called "the New Fateh". But the Maltese prime minister said the pair had not issued any demands. Fateh is a reference to Gaddafi, who led the Fate revolution after his coup in 1969 and was killed in 2011 after being overthrown in an uprising.
Child trafficking gang arrested in Mumbai
Police say they sold at least five babies in the past year Police stand with the members of an alleged child trafficking gang in Mumbai. New Delhi (CNN) — Police in Mumbai have arrested six people in connection with a baby smuggling ring. The gang, five women and a man, would abduct babies in Mumbai and sell them to childless couples in other parts of India, according to senior police inspector Naresh Kasale. The activities of the gang came to police attention when they received a complaint about a missing boy who had been kidnapped from his home in Mumbai. The child was tracked down earlier this month and found with a gang member in Goa.

New Delhi (CNN) — Police in Mumbai have arrested six people in connection with a baby smuggling ring. The gang, five women and a man, would abduct babies in Mumbai and sell them to childless couples in other parts of India, according to senior police inspector Naresh Kasale. How to prepare Nigerian white rice and stew for Christmas
Cooking white rice is as easy as boiling eggs for breakfast. It is usually cooked plain with no added ingredients. Some people add salt but this is optional. This procedure applies to the long grain white rice.
Ingredients:....
Long grain parboiled white rice Salt (Optional)
Cooking Directions
1. Parboil the rice using the method detailed in How to Parboil Rice for Cooking White Rice . You may want to parboil it for much longer depending on personal preference.
2. Pour the rice in a sieve to drain out the hot water.
3. Dip in cold water, then wash and drain.
4. Meanwhile set some water to boil in a pot big enough to accommodate the rice bearing in mind that the rice will rise some more. The extent of rising depends on the type of rice and for how long it was parboiled.
5. Add the parboiled rice and salt (optional). Check to see that the water level is just about the same as the rice.
6. Cook till the water is just about drying up. Check that the rice is done. If not, add more water and keep cooking.
7. Keep checking till the rice is done. Leave to dry completely. This is usually confirmed by a ticking sound coming from the pot.
Ingredients and PREPARATION METHOD
1.5 kg Fresh Tomatoes or Tinned Tomato Puree,
100 g Canned Tomato paste,
1 litre Vegetable Oil,
500 g Beef,
2 or 3 onoin bulbs,

President Buhari orders state government to pay workers salaries before Christmas.
President Muhammadu Buhari has asked governors in the country to pay workers in their states all outstanding salaries and entitlements. The governors are to make the payments with parts of the at least 25 percent of the refunds made to them from excess deductions for external debt service.
Buhari asked the governors to pay the salaries through the refund from the federal government. The Punch reports that the president said this through one of his spokespersons, Garba Shehu adding that the sum of N552.74 billion had been approved as refund to the governors.
Many state governors have expressed their inability to help the situation with workers owed at least five months in salaries and other entitlements.
In some states, workers are owed up to eight
months.
Now, about 33 governors are reportedly expected to receive 25 percent of their approved.
The report quoted Shehu as saying the payment followed the claims by the states that they had been overcharged in deductions for external debt service between 1995 and 2002. He noted that the president directed the minister of Finance, Kemi Adeosun, to make the payment as he remained troubled over the issue of workers’ benefits, particularly salary and pensions which he said must be paid immediately. According to the statement: “When he assumed office last year, the President declared an emergency on unpaid salaries, following the discovery that 27 out of the 36 states had fallen behind in the payments to their workers, in some cases for up to a year. “Following this, a bailout loan was issued to the states twice, with a first batch of about N300bn given to them in 2015 in the form of soft loans.
“The administration also got the Debt Management Office to restructure their commercial loans of over N660bn and extended the life span of the loans. “Because this did not succeed in pulling many of the states out of distress, the Federal government this year gave out a further N90bn to 22 states as yet another bailout loans under very stringent conditions.
“President Buhari is of the opinion that the payment of salaries and pensions must be given priority to save both serving and retired workers and their families from distress.”

London busiest tube line strike
Strikes: passengers are being warned to leave extra time to travel or seek alternative routes
Central line strike: London's busiest Tube line facing Christmas Eve chaos as drivers' walkout announced.
Londoners face travel chaos on Christmas Eve after Tube drivers announced last-minute strike action.
Drivers on the Central Line are planning to walk out in a row over the dismissal of a fellow driver for "gross misconduct". Transport for London is warning passengers to allow plenty of time to travel or seek alternative routes with a reduced service on the line throughout December 24.
The walkout on the Underground’s busiest line could cause mayhem for Londoners trying to get home for Christmas or desperately scouring the shops for last-minute presents. Transport for London said trains would still run every five minutes between Ealing Broadway and Liverpool Street, but warned trains on the West RuislIp branch would be severely effected.
Organised by the RMT union, the strike is in response to the sacking of a driver who was found to have put others at risk after passing a red signal. As well as a reduced service, there will be no trains at all between White City and West Ruislip. Peter McNaught, Operations Director for the Central line said: “This dispute concerns the dismissal of a Central line driver for gross misconduct following a serious breach of our safety. procedures while operating a train. What are London's most delayed Tube lines? “We carried out a full and fair disciplinary process which found that the driver failed to take the appropriate action having passed a red signal, potentially putting the safety of others at risk. We urge the union to withdraw its action and not cause disruption to Londoners.”

Clash in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo has left 18persons dead
Fighting between Hutu and Nande ethnic militias in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo has killed 17 civilians and one police officer, in a sign of worsening insecurity across the vast country. "Some were killed by gunshots and others by machetes," Captain Guillaume Djike told Reuters.
Innocent Gasigwa, a local activist, said the clashes involved the predominantly ethnic Nande "Mai Mai Mazembe" militia and mostly Hutu "Nyatura" fighters. Separately Human Rights Watch (HRW) said security forces killed at least 34 people during protests this week against President Joseph Kabila's refusal to step down at the end of his mandate.

HRW's Central Africa director said on Twitter that the deaths, including 19 in the capital Kinshasa and five in the southeastern mining hub of Lubumbashi, happened at protests early on Tuesday and HRW was verifying reports of more deaths.
Congo's government says 22 people were killed in the clashes, including a police officer, most of them by stray bullets or while looting.

Step 2: Place the washed rice in a pot and add the Stock (I used turkey stock for this). Add some water, Curry powder (For color and taste), Seasoning cubes, Salt to taste and minced garlic. Cover the pot and leave to cook till the liquid in the pot dries up leaving the softened (But not too soft) rice .

Step 1: Heat two tbsp. of vegetable oil in a large pan.
Step 2: Add the batch 1 veggies (carrot, green pepper, peas, runner beans, onions) and stir-fry for about 1 minute. Add the liver (Batch 1) and stir-fry for 2mins. Add the rice (Batch
1) and stir to incorporate the mixture, leave for 1 minute before turning out into a pot.
Repeat the process above till the whole batch is used up
P.S: If you do not want to go through the stress, Simply Stir-fry all the veggies and liver in a pan, Add it to the curried rice and mix to incorporate. Leave to heat further on low heat before turning off the burner. Serve hot!

Tasty jollof rice to try this season
This is the most popular Nigerian rice recipe. This is why you will always see it in parties. It is quite easy to prepare if you follow the simple steps.
The following are other variations of Jollof Rice:
Coconut Rice
Mixed Vegetable Jollof Rice
Rice and Beans
Ingredients
3 cigar cups | 750g long grain parboiled rice
Tomato Stew 500 mls
Chicken (whole chicken, drumsticks or chicken breast)
Pepper and salt (to taste)
2 medium onions
3 Knorr cubes
2 teaspoons thyme
2 teaspoons curry powder (Nigerian curry powder) Before you cook Jollof Rice
1. Prepare the tomato stew. It is advisable to prepare tomato stew before hand and keep in the freezer. This is so that whenever you want to cook any jollof rice related dish, it is just a matter of adding it to your cooking.
2. If you will use whole chicken then wash and cut it into pieces. Cook with the thyme, Knorr cubes and 2 bulbs of onions (chopped). The cooking time depends on the type of chicken.
The rooster or cockerel cooks much faster than the hen but the hen is definitely tastier.
When done, grill it in an oven. You may also fry it. This is to give it a golden look which is more presentable especially if you have guests for dinner.
3. Parboil the rice using the method detailed in parboiled rice for cooking jollof rice . Rinse the parboiled rice and put in a sieve to drain.
Cooking Directions
1. Pour the chicken stock and the tomato stew into a sizeable pot and leave to boil.
2. Add the drained parboiled rice, curry powder, salt and pepper to taste. The water level should be the same level of the rice. This is to ensure that all the water dries up by the time the rice is cooked.
3. Cover the pot and leave to cook on low to medium heat. This way the rice does not burn before the water dries up.
If you parboiled the rice as described at parboiling rice for cooking jollof rice , the rice should be done by the time the water is dry. Taste to confirm. If not, you will need to add more water and reduce the heat to prevent burning. Keep cooking till done.
Serve with Fried Plantain, Nigerian Moi Moi, Nigerian Salad or Coleslaw .
You can spice up this recipe by adding 2 well known vegetables to arrive at what we refer to as Mixed Vegetables Jollof Rice .

Berlin Christmas market killing, suspected Tunisian on the run
German police are looking for a Tunisian man after finding an identity document under the driver's seat of the truck that ploughed into a Berlin Christmas market, killing 12 people.
The document was in the name of Anis A., born in the southern city of Tataouine in 1992. The man is also believed to use false names, it said. Daily newspaper Bild reported he was known to police as a possibly dangerous individual, and part of a large Islamist network. Police initially arrested a Pakistani asylum-seeker near the scene, but released him without charge on Tuesday. Authorities have warned that the attacker is on the run and may be armed. It is not clear if the perpetrator was acting alone or with others.
The 25-tonne truck, belonging to a Polish freight company, smashed into wooden huts serving mulled wine and sausages, injuring about 45 people. The Polish driver of the truck was found shot dead in the cabin of the vehicle. Bild reported that he was alive until the attack took place. It quoted an investigator as saying there must have been a struggle with the attacker, who may have been injured. Islamic State has claimed responsibility, as it did for a similar attack in July when a Tunisians born man rammed a truck through a crowd celebrating Bastille Day in Nice. Eighty-six people were killed, and the driver was shot dead by police.
The head of the Association of German Criminal Detectives, Andre Schulz, told German television that police hoped to make another arrest soon.
"I am relatively confident that we will perhaps tomorrow or in the near future be able to present a new suspect," he said.
Wednesday's Passauer Neue Presse quoted the head of the group of interior ministers from Germany's 16 federal states, Klaus Bouillon, as saying tougher security measures were needed. "We want to raise the police presence and strengthen the protection of Christmas markets. We will have more patrols. Officers will have machine guns. We want to make access to markets more difficult, with vehicles parked across them," Bouillon told the paper. German Chancellor Angela Merkel, who will run for a fourth term next year, has said it would be particularly repulsive if a refugee, seeking protection in Germany, was the perpetrator. Some politicians have blamed her open-door migrant policy for making such attacks more likely. The anti-immigrant Alternative for Germany (AfD), which has won support in the last two years as Merkel's own popularity has waned, said that Germany is no longer safe.
Some politicians have also called for changes to Merkel's immigration and security policies after she allowed more than a million migrants to enter Germany in the last two years, many fleeing countries such as Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan. Bavarian Interior Minister Joachim Herrmann told German radio on Wednesday that there was a higher risk of Islamist attacks because of the influx of migrants. Later Die Welt reported that the man's identity documents were issued in Kleve, North Rhine- Westphalia, and he had an address in both Berlin and North Rhine-Westphalia. He had been charged with assault in the summerbut disappeared before he could appear in court.
Kicked out of Delta Air Line in London for speaking Arabic
Delta Air Lines Inc removed two men from a plane at London's Heathrow Airport before takeoff, with one of the men accusing the airline of acting on passenger complaints he had been speaking on a phone in Arabic.
Adam Saleh, a Muslim American, appeared in a Twitter video retweeted more than 440,000 times. Speaking from the plane on Wednesday he said: "We're getting kicked out because we spoke a different language...Six white people against us bearded men."
It was not immediately clear what took place before the recording began. Saleh has posted what he calls "experiment" videos in the past showing him speaking Arabic on planes. In a statement, Delta said two customers were removed from Delta Flight 1 after a disturbance in the cabin prompted more than 20 customers to express their discomfort. The airline said it spoke to the two passengers it removed and rebooked them. Delta said it would speak with the crew and other passengers when the flight landed at New York's Kennedy Airport on Wednesday afternoon.
It said the airline had an obligation to ensure a safe environment and promised an update once it had more information.
"We take all allegations of discrimination seriously and we are gathering all of the facts before jumping to any conclusion. Our culture requires treating everyone with respect," the statement said.
Airlines have in recent months battled negative publicity over incidents in which Muslim passengers were removed from flights. In November, a supporter of President-elect Donald Trump was allowed to stay on a domestic US flight after going on an expletive-filled rant. He was later slapped with a lifetime ban from Delta flights.

UNILAG increases Post Graduate accommodation,
caution fees.
- The school authorities have increased the cost of
bed space and caution fees on the post graduate students by 500%. According to InfoNaij.com.
- The students are agitated by the schools action. The University of Lagos (UNILAG) has increased the cost of bed space and caution fees of postgraduate students by 500%. UNILAG increases accommodation, caution fees According to The Punch, the students are now demanding a reversal of the hike and the refund of the backlog of caution fee.
They also want the school management to reinstate the Graduate Fellowship and the Teaching Assistant Programmes hitherto enjoyed by indigent postgraduate students. A letter signed by the Dean, Students Affairs Division, Professor Ademola Adeleke, had announced an increase from N11,000 to N70,000 for bed spaces at the Henry Carr Hall and to N120,000 for Erastus Akingbola Hall. Caution fee was also increased from N3,500 to N25,000, while students expected to resume for the new session at the newly opened Sodeinde Postgraduate Wing are also expected to pay N120,00 for accommodation per session.
According to Adeleke, the increment takes effect from the 2016/2017 session. “The cost per bed space is N70,000. This means that for Henry Carr, rooms with a single occupant will attract N70,000 X 2, which is N140,000. Caution fee is N25,000,’’ part of the letter read.
One of the students who spoke in the issue under the condition of anonymity said: “ For us here, we are now expected to pay N184,000 for a bed space and anyone who wants to pay for two-bed spaces is expected to pay N265,000. ''For Henry Carr, the cost of a room inclusive of bed space, caution and maintenance fees was initially N58,000 for a session for PhD students. That included bed space cost, caution fee and maintenance fee. “But now, the amount has been jerked up to N165,000. That is over 600 per cent increase for an eight-by-eight cubicle. That is ridiculous compared to the N35,000 members of staff of the university pay for a three- bedroom flat with a boys quarters of two rooms.’’ When contacted on the phone, Adeleke declined to speak on the matter. “You should get in touch with the Information Unit. They are the spokespersons for the university,’’ he simply said.
